Our Nursery pupils move seamlessly into our Reception class that is situated but a few metres away. They continue to follow the EYFS programmes of learning and to further develop the invaluable partnership between parents and the school.
English and Mathematics are taught as discrete subjects and the other areas of learning and development are covered by topics.
In addition, pupils begin to learn oral French and have three designated P.E. lessons when they enjoy gymnastics, dance, swimming and other activities guaranteed to enhance their physical development.
Our newly-decorated Reception room, our ability to make full use of our extensive grounds and the commitment of our dedicated staff all combine to ensure that our pupils have an excellent introduction to GHS life.
At the end of the Reception year, our pupils are welcomed into our two Infant classrooms where they begin to study the National Curriculum subjects. In Year 1 much of our pupils’ learning is topic-based but once again, English and Mathematics are taught discretely. Pupils also have designated P.E., Games, French, I.C.T. and Music lessons taught by specialist staff.
Regular homework activities are introduced and pupils are encouraged to share their reading books with their parents on a regular basis. In Year 2, pupils have a weekly Drama lesson which takes place in the Rainbow Theatre.
Grittleton House is fortunate to be located in a culturally-rich area. In all classes, we endeavour to arrange educational visits to enhance our pupils' learning.
Throughout our pupils’ time at Grittleton House, parents are encouraged to keep in daily contact with staff by using our home message book in the Reception and Infant Department and in the Junior School, the more formal homework diary.
