Bursaries

Bursaries, Sibling Discounts and Past Pupil Discounts

Grittleton House School aims to be as accessible as possible to children who would benefit from our academic, cultural, sporting and wide extra-curricular provision. We recognise that many of our parents have to make personal sacrifices to secure their children’s education. Fees are set at levels which offer excellent value for money, particularly in the light of what is on offer to all the pupils at the school, but they can still be beyond the reach of some. Consequently some means-tested bursaries are available.

Bursaries are means tested on an annual basis. They are more usually available to external candidates aged between 5 and 16 who meet the school’s entry requirements and whose parents cannot afford to send their child to an independent school without financial assistance. Parents who wish their child to be considered for a Bursary should follow the normal admission process, by making an appointment to visit the school and meet the Headmaster, followed by a taster day at the school.

A bursary application form will then be made available at the discretion of the Headmaster and Bursar. As a general guide, gross parental income will need to be below £50,000 before an award will be considered. The number of bursaries awarded is limited and application will need to be supported by a full, written, verified statement of financial circumstances. The assessment of the level of financial need will include a consideration of parental income, outgoings, capital assets, capital liabilities, the number of dependent children and other relevant information. Applicants will be required to provide proof of income, such as a P60 or Inland Revenue document or copies of accounts. These bursaries are made on the basis of total confidentiality. There is no fixed limit to the level of assistance provided in any single case (e.g. 100% bursaries are possible), although financially there is a total limit to the amount of assistance that can be offered to pupils in any one year.

Grittleton House School prides itself on providing an inclusive, caring environment based on strong traditional values and high quality teaching. We expect the recipients of our Bursaries to share our principles of friendship, integrity and mutual respect and use these attributes to enrich the life of the school.
