Please see below a testimonial from a grateful parent of a year 10 boy.
Dear Headmaster,
Please pass this on to James’ English Teacher, who is doing a sterling job.
James and I were talking about school on Monday evening, he was telling me about his controlled assessments coming up in English and IT.
He turned round to me and said, "I really like Macbeth, I like the way it sees conflict." As if that wasn't enough to shock me he then quoted Macbeth to explain to me why he thought Macbeth was brave, and then explained to me the Contrast of Macbeth to Dulce et Decorun Est, quoted the poem and explained that it shows war was "inglorious."
I nearly passed out with the shock of the passion and knowledge he spoke with. He then started to explain the Charge of the Light Brigade, again quoting from it. I was amazed.
This is my dyslexic child, who never reads and always hated English, was always below class average by a long way, who now is telling me he enjoys Shakespeare, and can quote Wilfred Owen and Tennyson, and can compare these texts with each other, and is getting great English marks.
His English teacher must be one amazing woman, an inspirational teacher, please pass my thanks on to her. I wish my English teacher had done such a good job, that way I might be able to talk to James with some knowledge of these texts!
Thank you.
Please note the name has been changed to avoid embarrassment!
