Continuity of tutoring is maintained in year 8 and 9 as pupils remain with their year 7 tutors. This allows tutors to build a detailed knowledge of the pupil that is vital in guiding them through the choices ahead. Tutors monitor academic progress throughout, with monthly checks on attainment, effort, homework and behaviour and regular checking and signing of the homework diaries.
In year 8 work becomes a little more demanding, and homework increases. PSHE in year 8 covers individual’s rights and responsibilities in society, focusing particularly on the laws and the Criminal Justice System.
During the summer term of year 9 all pupils have the difficult task of choosing which options they would like to take for year 10 and their GCSEs. There are several factors to consider, pupils need to consider not only which subjects they enjoy and have a natural ability for but those that will be most useful for their future choices of A levels, college, university and ultimately career path. Our dedicated teachers will be on hand to help discuss all of these needs and offer advice and guidance where required.
