Curriculum

We implement the Early Years Foundation Stage.  Our planning is based around the individual needs and interests of the children and we provide a good balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities.  All six Areas of Learning are covered through our exciting and imaginative topics.  We firmly believe that children learn best through play and we encourage exploration and discovery through the provision of open-ended resources.

Language and literacy development are fostered through daily speaking and listening activities, enjoying and sharing books and early writing.

Counting and sorting activities, puzzles, games and pattern making all help to promote mathematical development.  We encourage children to apply their developing mathematical skills to solve everyday problems.  Children’s creativity is encouraged through a wide range of activities which include regular music sessions, role play, painting and printing activities and model making.

Children have daily opportunities for physical play in addition to a weekly PE lesson.  Swimming lessons may be available in the summer term for our older children.  The children use the school grounds for welly walks and environmental activities.  Our Nursery teacher has undergone Forest School Skills training.

The children enjoy regular opportunities to cook and learn about healthy eating.
